Newport Beach Police Association
Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 4, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how the Newport Beach Police Association (“NBPA,” “we,”
“us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information you provide when you use our online
simulators and related web pages (the “Site”). By using the Site, you agree to this Policy. If you do not
agree, please do not use the Site.
1. Information we collect
- Information you provide. When you begin using the simulator, we ask for your first name, last name,
and email address, and an optional mobile phone number. If you provide a phone number and separately
consent, we also record that consent to contact you by text message.
- Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our hosting provider may log basic technical
information such as your IP address, browser type, and pages viewed, for security and to operate the Site. The
Site also stores a small flag in your browser’s local storage so it does not repeatedly ask for your
details or repeat the cookie notice.
2. How we use your information
- To operate the simulators and remember that you have already provided your details or accepted this notice.
- To contact you, at the email address (and, only with your consent, the phone number) you provide, with
information and updates related to the Newport Beach Police Association and its facilities advocacy.
- To understand overall interest in the simulators and improve them.
- To comply with law and protect the security and integrity of the Site.
3. Text messaging (SMS) terms & consent
Providing your phone number is optional. We will only send you text messages if you affirmatively opt in
by entering your mobile number and checking the consent box. By opting in, you agree to receive messages from the
Newport Beach Police Association related to its facilities advocacy and simulators.
- Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.
- Reply STOP to any message to unsubscribe at any time; reply HELP for help.
- Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of any purchase, service, or benefit.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your mobile number or SMS consent with third parties or affiliates for
their own marketing purposes. Mobile information will not be shared with third parties for their marketing
or promotional purposes.
- Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
You may also withdraw consent at any time by contacting us using the details below.
4. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral
advertising. We may disclose information only:
- to service providers who host the Site or help us send communications on our behalf, under obligations to
protect the information and use it only to provide services to us;
- if required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of NBPA
or others; and
- in connection with an organizational change, with successors bound by this Policy.
5. Cookies & local storage
The Site does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. It uses a small amount of browser local
storage to remember that you have provided your details and accepted the notices. The Site also loads
third-party resources needed to work, described below, which may set their own technical cookies or receive your
IP address as part of delivering their content.
6. Third-party services
The simulators load mapping, font, and routing resources from third parties, including OpenStreetMap and the
OSRM routing service, CARTO basemap tiles, Google Fonts, and the City of Newport Beach’s public
calls-for-service data feed. Your use of those resources is subject to the respective providers’ terms and
privacy practices. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party practices.
7. Your California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy
Rights Act (“CCPA/CPRA”), gives you the right to:
- Know what personal information we have collected and how we use and disclose it;
- Access and obtain a copy of your personal information;
- Correct inaccurate personal information;
- Delete personal information we have collected, subject to legal exceptions; and
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information,
so no opt-out is necessary, but you may still contact us with any request.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights. To make a request, contact us using the
details in Section 11. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
8. Data retention & security
We retain the information you provide for as long as needed to fulfill the purposes described above or as
required by law, and then delete or de-identify it. We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to
protect your information; however, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot
guarantee absolute security.
9. Children’s privacy
The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from
children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. Changes are effective when posted, and the “Effective date”
above will be updated. Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the
revised Policy.
